Job Description 

Awaken Church, located in Columbia, SC, is seeking a dynamic, God-fearing Lead Pastor to shepherd our flock of approximately 120 attendees. Established in 2009, Awaken Church is a family-based, non denominational. We are seeking an energetic, expositional teaching pastor who is caring, has a heart for missions, is disciplined and compassionate in preaching the Word of God, and who is a prayer leader with a heart for people and the healthy growth of God’s Church. Compensation 

  • $75,000 yearly salary (total package) 

Qualifications

  • Be able to passionately express one’s calling to be a pastor. 
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a pastoral or ordained ministry position.
  • Preferred lead pastor experience. 
  • A preferred ministry degree or seminary-based training from an accredited college or university. 

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Effectively preach and communicate meaningful, applicational-based expositional messages from the Word of God. 
  • Prayerfully develop and implement a long-term vision for the church. 
  • Lead staff, including the recruitment and supervision of pastors and other staff members. 
  • Ability to lead, guide, and oversee church ministries with the support of a strong elder body of church laymen. 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with other Christ-centered organizations. 
  • Actively support outreach and mission efforts.

Columbia Area Description 

Columbia is the capital city of South Carolina (SC), located in Richland County. It was chartered in 1854. The Columbia metropolitan area and surrounding communities have a population of over 850,000 and is the second-most populous city in SC. Columbia has cool to mild winters and hot and humid summers.  Columbia is surrounded by the Saluda, Broad, and Congaree Rivers. SC has 187 miles of coastlines.

The Columbia Metropolitan Airport offers more than 25 nonstop flights to 10 major airports in nine cities. Local AMTRAK provides transportation to a dozen east coast cities. There are numerous shopping and dining areas throughout Columbia. There are also several antique areas to shop.

The Columbia area has a high military presence. It includes Fort Jackson, the largest US Army installation for Basic Combat Training, McEntire Joint National Guard Base, the SC Air National Guard, and Shaw Air Force Base, located in Sumter, SC.

There are more than seven Colleges and Universities in Columbia. The largest is the University of SC, which has a campus of 27 thousand plus students with 350-degree programs. Richland County has three school districts. The Northeast Richland County’s primary school district is Richland District #2, that has 40 centers and schools serving over 280 thousand students, PreK-12. There are also numerous private schools in the Columbia metro area.

Columbia offers a variety of collegiate level sports featuring the Southeastern Conference, University of SC football, and Women’s basketball national champion team. Columbia has its own minor league baseball team known as the “Fireflies”. Columbia has 100 golf courses in the area.

Columbia offers an abundance of activities including the arts, sports, and outdoor activities. Sesquicentennial State Park has 1400 acres including a 30-acre lake. It has hiking trails, a splash pad, a six-mile bike trail, and paddle boat and Kayak rentals. Lake Murray contains 78 square miles of waterway for all types of recreational activities. Lake Wateree is in the northeast area of Columbia. Other attractions include the Riverbank Zoo & Botanical Gardens, the SC State Museum, the SC State Capital, Columbia Museum of Art, the Koger Center for the Arts, EdVenture, Richland County Public Library, Columbia City Ballet, and the Columbia City Jazz Dance Company.

Not far from Columbia, Myrtle Beach is 138 miles away and Hilton Head Island is 127 miles away. They both have great outlet shopping centers as well as beautiful beaches. Charlotte, NC is known as the “Queen City” which is 92 miles north of Columbia. It offers NASCAR, NFL and NBA sporting events.  Asheville, NC is 157 miles NW of Columbia and is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Charleston, a historic city, is 113 miles SE of Columbia. Atlanta, GA is 214 miles from Columbia and offers a multitude of things to explore.
