ASSOCIATE PASTOR - FAMILY & STUDENTS:

 

CHURCH PROFILE

We are a local church committed to living and sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We were established in 1943 on 17 acres, housing a 1,200 seat Worship Center, Hebrews Fellowship Hall, Education and Administration spaces, Activities Building, ball field, children’s playground, and pickleball/basketball courts. We are a pastor-led, congregational-governance, deacon-served, and Kingdom-focused Baptist church that ministers in friendly cooperation with the Southern Baptist Convention and other local churches. Our rich, 81-year history has been characterized by a commitment to God’s Word, God’s plan of salvation, and God’s mission.

POSITION PROFILE

  • Presupposition: Candidate meets the requirements of 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1.
  • Philosophy of ministry: Someone committed to leading and shepherding the families and students of our church and discipling them to share the love of Jesus Christ with our community. 

CANDIDATE PROFILE

  • Must be a born-again, baptized believer
  • Must demonstrate the qualifications set forth in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 & Titus 1:6-9
  • Must affirm the Baptist Faith and Message (2000)
  • Should display the spiritual gifts and maturity appropriate for this position, including teaching (Ephesians 4:11), shepherding (Ephesians 4:11), exhortation (Romans 12:8), faith (1Corinthians 12:9) administration (1Corinthians 12:28), leadership (Romans 12:8), and discernment (1Corinthians 12:10)
  • Must become a committed, engaged member of ARBC
  • Must be able to balance leadership responsibilities for all families with students, ranging in ages 5K to 12th grade
  • Should be able to coordinate and collaborate with lay persons who lead ministry and mission initiatives for all families with students
  • Should engage in and address contemporary issues facing families and students from a biblical perspective
  • Should be gifted in relating to people of diverse demographics
  • Should have formal or informal ministry experience and have earned at least a bachelor's degree or equivalent training
  • Should thrive within a team environment, including church ministry staff, administrative teams, and ARBC members

RESPONSIBILITIES:

In consultation with the Senior Pastor and in conjunction with the other ARBC staff and lay leadership:

  • Serve as a role model and spiritual mentor for families of students
  • Provide spiritual leadership and biblical teaching for families and students from K5 to 12th grade
  • Commit to praying for and with families and students
  • Oversee the planning and supervision all student activities and events
  • Develop and implement strategies to reach students and families in Charleston
  • Prioritize developing relationships directly with students toward encouraging their salvation and a lifelong commitment to Christ
  • Provide hands-on participation in weekly ministries and summer camps, Music & Sports Camp, seasonal events, and school functions as appropriate
  • Provide spiritual counseling when requested or needed
  • Collaborate and coordinate with all other ministry leaders of the church
  • Support and communicate the vision and mission of the church
  • Develop and manage the family ministry budget using godly stewardship principles
  • Conduct regular meetings with families of students to align ministry goals and resources
  • Ensure compliance with all church policy guidance regarding the operations and affairs of the ARBC Ministry
  • Coordinate with faith-based professionals to provide special presentations and studies that widen the scope of family and student Christian faith
  • Develop and provide various information and training opportunities for volunteers and leaders
  • Provide strong and consistent presence and engagement with the church school

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Christian/Biblical Studies
  • Post-graduate degree (Seminary) or M.A. Divinity preferred
  • Previous pastoral ministry experience is preferred
