Job Description

Associate Pastor/Worship

River of Life Baptist Church (www.riveroflifebc.com)

Be a Pastor

This full-time salaried staff member should be a pastor in the fullest meaning of the word. He will be expected to have a heart and mind that is passionate for the health, growth, and overall Gospel impact of the church, locally and globally.

As an Associate Pastor of Worship, he will provide pastoral leadership to music and worship ministries and to the church at large. He will work closely with the Senior Pastor as his direct supervisor, with the Plurality of Elders as his spiritual overseers, to cultivate worship gatherings and worship teams that help lead our congregation to see and savor the greatness of God in Jesus Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Theologically through his own personal engagement of the Scriptures, it is important that this person actually worship the Lord God himself as he leads the church each week. There needs to be a contagious joy, and awe present, and this person can help the church have that joy as he leads.

There are several key components to the work of this pastor:

Administrative: Effective communication with other staff members and other leaders in the life of the church is required. He should be in the office and available for church members and other staff communication as needed. He will be expected to look at the church calendar, think strategically, integrate all aspects of the life of the church into his thinking, while adding a missional heart and mind to the thinking of the church staff.

Leadership: This pastor should provide pastoral leadership to those involved in the worship ministry (staff & volunteers) for ROLBC. He should actively look for creative methods to develop the current worship team, while identifying/ recruiting other ROLBC members to serve in the Worship Ministry.

Theological: This person is expected to grow personally and professionally as he serves the Lord at River of Life Baptist Church.

Missional: This component should grow as the associate pastor develops theologically. This pastor is expected to be evangelistic not because he has to, but because he wants to.

Training/Equipping: He is expected to work with others and equipping them for their particular calling and living out the gospel in every area of their life.

Build an Adult Choir and Other Age-Graded Choirs

  • Lead the choir practice each week and or when preparing to sing in a worship experience.
  • Work with the children's and preschool choirs developing them.
  • Recruit and train leaders for these choirs as needed. Meet with them to build rapport and a sense of team throughout the year.
  • Select music for the adult choir and the church to use in their praise to the Lord. This will require that this person stay current as to new music. We (ROLBC), desire that this person use theologically sound hymns from the past in various formats.

Develop/Lead Praise Teams, and other Worship Ensembles to Help Enhance the

Church's Worship Experience

This involves planning and learning new music that can be integrated into the various worship teams of this church. These worship teams and ensembles would develop over time. This would, of course, involve practice times with instruments, etc., on a regular basis.

Coordinate the Scheduling of the Media/Sound Booth and all Associated Tasks

Including but not limited to Projection Equipment, PowerPoint, Camera, Recording, and Lighting. This responsibility is about team development and working with worship team members and encouraging them to learn to do their task with excellence. The key would be developing relationships in this area and not basing everything solely on technical excellence. Leading in these areas will require a good working knowledge of everything in each area and would require training and accountability.

Workplace Culture

  • An aggressive mindset. ("go-getter" for the kingdom).
  • A faithful spirit. (strong personal faith in Jesus).
  • An innovative approach. (creative problem-solving).
  • A relational heart. (commitment to people over programs).
  • An excellent work-ethic. (passion for raising the bar).

Education & Experience

  • MDiv with specialization in Worship Leadership completed or in process of completion with a Bachelor of Arts in Theology and Religious Studies with Worship Ministry emphasis.
  • Strong Theological Background.
