Westside Fellowship is seeking a Student Pastor who will be responsible for overseeing the planning, coordinating, and implementation of student discipleship at Westside Fellowship. The principal function of the Student Pastor at Westside Fellowship will be to serve as the primary director, curriculum designer, Bible teacher, and discipleship/mentorship coordinator for WestsideYouth, by creating and implementing a comprehensive discipleship ministry for the Middle School (6th-8th) and High School (9th-12th) students at Westside. Additionally, the Student Pastor will fulfill shepherding opportunities as indicated by the Senior Pastor, the elders, and the needs of the church.
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who has a deep desire to see students come to know Jesus Christ. Someone who is passionate about discipleship and is committed to fostering disciple-makers who know and treasure Jesus Christ. Someone who will lead the students and their families in becoming committed followers of Jesus and growing in Him.
The focus is to foster a youth ministry that will not only reach students, but also partner with families in the evangelism and discipleship process. This includes outreach to the community in order to build relationships that will in turn seek to build the body of Christ at Westside Fellowship.
The harvest is ripe for students at Westside Fellowship, as our church campus is located immediately beside Western Alamance High School and within 5 miles of Elon University in Alamance County.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Saving faith in Jesus Christ, and ability to clearly articulate the core tenets of the gospel.
- A growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Meet the qualifications of a pastor as outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in theology, biblical studies, youth ministry or equivalent. MDiv is preferable (completed or in-progress).
- Affirm the Baptist Faith & Message 2000
- Affirm the Westside Fellowship Statement of Faith
- Must have a love for students and their families.
- Demonstrate a spirit of humility and contriteness (Psalm 51:17, Isaiah 66:2)
- Effectively Communicate to a wide audience (1 Timothy 3:2)
- Realize that you are working for and serving the Lord, under the authority of His local church.
- Able to maintain discretion about church business and privileged information.
- Self-motivated, self-disciplined, and evidence of being a lifelong learner.
Additional Preferred Qualifications (Education, Skills and other requirements):
- A wife who will be an active member at Westside Fellowship and an integral part of the WestsideYouth
- If not ordained, then work toward that station with the approval and guidance of the Elders at Westside Fellowship.
- Understand the value of longevity in ministry and have a desire to build for the future.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills.
- Ability to build and lead volunteer teams.
- Display such desirable qualities as, teamwork, cooperation, dependability, punctuality, accountability, organization, hard work, respect, humility, sense of humor, a teachable spirit and staff loyalty.
- Ability to create, organize and implement multimedia, current digital communication, and technology needs of the church.
Regular Duties:
Under the direction and leadership of the senior pastor, the Student Pastor will…
- Lead and organize WestsideYouth by implementing elements of praise & worship, biblical teaching, fellowship, evangelism, and missions.
- Plan the weekly, monthly, and quarterly WestsideYouth activities/events/programs, including a weekly service on Sunday nights.
- Plan, prepare, and execute annual activities such as summer camp, VBS, and other discipleship/fellowship events (such as: conferences, camps, retreats, or others if approved by the Senior Pastor).
- Recruit, train, and oversee WestsideYouth volunteers, with giftedness, to assist in the ministry and to serve as adult supervision, Bible study leaders, mentors, and in other capacities needed for the proper functioning of the WestsideYouth
- Ensure communication with parents of youth is open and current.
- Make routine visits to the individual school campuses where students attend, so as to be a part of our students’ lives by supporting them in the sports/activities in which they are involved.
- Prepare and implement the WestsideYouth
- Attend all worship services, weekly staff meetings and other monthly leadership meetings.
- To a limited extent, work with the children’s ministry to build relationships with future youth and oversee curriculum to ensure a smooth transition from WestsideKIDS to WestsideYouth.
- Assist Senior Pastor in pastoral ministry-related tasks such as visitation and outreach
- Occasionally preach during church worship services.
- Assume primary leadership responsibilities of the church when the Senior Pastor is away.
- Be a faithful and active member of Westside Fellowship.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor
General Responsibilities to the church:
- Spiritual Responsibilities
- Pray regularly for the students and their families in our church and community (1 Thessalonians 3:1-2).
- Read God’s Word regularly and model a sincere love for and commitment to living out God’s Word in your everyday life. (John 17:17, 1 John 2:6)
- Model for students a missional heart in service to God, their families, the church, the community, and the world. (Hebrews 10:24 – 25, 1 John 4:11, 19, 21, Matthew 28:19 – 20, Acts 1:8)
- Pastoral Responsibilities
- Preach, teach, exhort, and disciple students according to sound doctrine and the Westside Fellowship statement of faith (1 Timothy 4:13, 2 Timothy 4:1 – 2, 2 Timothy 2:2).
- Personally disciple and mentor students in the development of their faith while practicing and operating in safe Biblical guidelines.
- Visit students and their families providing “life-on-life” discipleship.
- Train youth workers in caring for students and their families. (Acts 6:1 – 6, Hebrews 13:7)
- Interact with and support students in various environments (lunch at school, extracurricular activities, times of crisis etc.).
- Counsel students and their families under the pastor’s guidance. (Colossians 1:28, Hebrews 13:1, 17, 1 Timothy 3:2, Ephesians 4:15)
- Provide education, training, and other opportunities to enable parents to better minister and train their youth spiritually.
- Oversee teaching material to ensure that it is Biblical and gospel-centered.
- Missional Responsibilities
- Train youth in personal evangelism. (Ephesians 4:11 – 13)
- Be active in outreach to lost youth and children and their families in our church and community.
- Set an example in cultivating relationships with unchurched persons. (Hebrews 13:7)
- Provide opportunities and activities for the youth to interact, fellowship, serve and have fun on and off campus.
- Lead the WestsideYouth ‘Volunteer Team' in planning regular outreach events targeted to reach students and their families (1 Timothy 2:1 – 4, Romans 1:16 – 17).
- Assist the WestsideKIDS ministry teams in outreach events.
- Lead mission efforts both locally and globally. (Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 1:8)
Salary:
The salary and compensation package will be based upon experience and education.
