The worship pastor at Malvern Hill Baptist Church serves as the pastor responsible for music and worship service planning and preparation as well as direction and oversight of A/V technologies. The principle purpose of this pastoral staff position is to organize and facilitate worship through music, leading the church body of Malvern Hill to worship Jesus Christ. The worship pastor will work in partnership with other leadership to help the church fulfill their purposes to love God, love others, and change the world.
Definition
Worship is the result of daily seeking and realizing God. It flows out of a believer’s desire to express love and adoration toward Him, glorifying Him with their whole heart. Worship is much more than can be accomplished on a Sunday, but is practiced and accomplished everyday by those who are justified, consistently walking with God, and seeking further sanctification. Corporate worship is the gathering of daily worshipers to glorify God through the preaching of the Word of God, prayers, praises, offerings, surrender/submission to God, and direction from God. The worship pastor for Malvern Hill Baptist Church will lead corporate worship as the culmination of a week of personal worship.
Qualifications
The qualifications for the worship pastor at Malvern Hill Baptist Church include:
- a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a call to church ministry. The person should be a leader with strong moral character and an active Christian lifestyle, who exercises his spiritual gifts in accordance with Titus 1:5-9 and 1 Timothy 3:1-7.
- a passion and spiritual gifting for leading the body of Christ in worship.
- an evangelical theology with the ability to minister in a church with people of diverse races, ages and denominational heritages.
- a desire to foster and implement the vision of the Malvern Hill along with the necessary leadership skills to recruit, train, develop, and guide leaders and volunteers, including congregants, college interns, and student leaders.
- the ability to lead our church into worship as a stand alone worship leader or as part of a team.
- proficiency in guitar or piano and the necessary understanding and ability to lead groups musically.
- familiarity with necessary technologies to lead worship ministry effectively and to promote Malvern Hill’s worship ministry. Technologies include, but are not limited to: planning software, worship software, YouTube, and social media management.
- organizational abilities to coordinate volunteers, activities, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- a team-oriented mentality with the ability to communicate well and work collaboratively with all levels of leadership, staff, and volunteers.
Education and Experience
- Completion or intended completion of bachelor’s and/or master’s degree is required.
- Education and experience showing musical proficiency is required.
- Experience working in a church or religious environment is desired.
- Both vocal and instrumental proficiency is preferred.
Oversight
The worship pastor reports directly to the senior pastor.
Work Schedule
The worship pastor is a salaried member of the church staff working a full-time (40+ hours) schedule with flexible hours. The nature of the worship pastor position will require evening and weekend work hours.
Responsibilities
Worship and Music
The worship pastor is responsible:
- for worship service planning and preparation, in conjunction with the senior pastor.
- to raise up and train volunteers as are necessary to facilitate healthy worship services. These volunteers could include, but are not limited to, worship leaders, choir members, A/V technicians, camera operators, greeters, and welcome team members.
- for oversight and coordination of all music and worship ministries within the church, including students and children.
- for the organization and oversight of seasonal choirs for performances (i.e. Christmas and Easter) as well as occasional worship choir presentations.
- for all necessary practices to ensure that worship is approached with reverence, excellence, and joy.
- for management of online platforms to promote and expand the ministry of Malvern Hill through worship (examples include online videos, social media management, and assistance with website development for the worship ministry). Familiarity with photography and videography would be an added asset but is not required.
- for necessary maintenance of musical instruments and equipment.
- for management of necessary ministry budgets.
Pastoral Ministry
The worship pastor is expected to:
- participate in pastoral staff meetings and ministry conferences throughout the year.
- conduct hospital, home, and other visitations as assigned and as needed.
- serve as primary pastoral contact for church members involved in worship ministries.
- shepherd the hearts of church members involved in the worship ministry.
- provide counseling and ministry to members in need.
- attend special services/events (fall festival, senior adult fair, VBS, etc...) and assist in planning and coordinating special services/events.
- be flexible and open to change regarding other ministry duties and opportunities as they arise, in accordance with the dynamic nature of a rapidly growing church.
- perform other duties as assigned by senior pastor.
