General Summary:

The Senior Pastor is to be the shepherd to the congregation at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church. His main responsibilities are to be the spiritual leader of the church, to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ, to teach Biblical scripture, to provide administrative leadership, to engage in pastoral care and for leading the church to determine its mission and move toward the attainment of its mission. He serves as an enabler to involve church members in the work of the church so that its divine mission can be achieved. The Senior Pastor will be in charge of all welfare and oversight of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church and will preach the Word for the equipping of the body of Christ.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Develop sermons and conduct worship services as led by the Holy Spirit, and coordinate with other pastoral staff to lead in the observance of ordinances for all worship services.
  2. Lead the congregation in effective programs to fulfill the Great Commission with vision, purpose, and priority.
  3. Lead and demonstrate effective ways to witness and win the lost to salvation through Jesus Christ.
  4. Provide pastoral care by visiting and ministering, with the assistance of staff and Deacons, to members and prospective members in homes, nursing care facilities, and hospitals as needed.
  5. Lead the Deacons, staff, and the church in a caring ministry for those in the church and in the community.
  6. Provide care and confidential counsel to members in planned life events and moments of personal struggles or crisis.
  7. Perform weddings, baby dedications, funerals and other events as requested.
  8. Provide administrative leadership for the total church program.
  9. Work with pastoral staff, Deacons, and other key leadership to carry out the mission and purpose of the church.
  10. Recommend and advise on the selection of all staff members and in determining their responsibilities.
  11. Serve as Overseer/Administrator of paid church staff, supervising and evaluating the tasks assigned to each, and conducting yearly performance reviews for church staff.
  12. Provide guidance and oversight to the Deacons and all church committees as a non-voting ex-officio member; specifically working with the following committees: nominating, finance, personnel and long-range.
  13. Oversee, along with Deacons, all church discipline matters and the management of conflict issues in the church.
  14. Communicate with the congregation through articles or announcements, written and spoken, using church newsletter, bulletins, worship services and electronic communication.
  15. Uphold with integrity the Constitution and Bylaws of PRBC.
  16. Maintain a vital and wholesome personal relationship with the Lord through daily Bible study and prayer.
  17. Cooperate with and participate when possible in Associational, State and Convention wide meetings to represent the church and to stay informed of those matters helpful to the church.
  18. Maintain church office hours for the benefit of all church members and the related business of the church.

Qualifications Required:

  • Born again Christian - as a representative of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, it is of greatest importance that the individual holding this position have a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and maintain a Christ-like lifestyle.
  • Ordained and licensed Southern Baptist Minister.
  • Supports the Baptist Faith and Message (version 2000).
  • Possess Biblical qualifications as stated in 1 Timothy 3:1-7.
  • At least 4 years of experience as a senior pastor (preferred).
  • A Bachelor of Arts in Theology, Biblical Studies or related field from accredited college/university, Master’s/Doctorate preferred.
  • Experience in managing staff.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills and proficiency in computer and technology skills.
  • Possess strong leadership and strategic thinking capabilities.
  • Possess proven character and integrity, maintaining a vital personal relationship with the Lord through daily Bible study and prayer, as well as having proper priorities at home with family, exhibiting an example of a Godly balanced life.
