Overall duties and responsibilities

As Children’s Ministry Director the incumbent has primary responsibility for creating environments, building relationships, and equipping volunteers to help children find and follow Jesus. As parents are the primary disciple-maker of their children, this role will have a heavy emphasis on partnering with parents.

Primary Functions:    

  1. Oversee and coordinate all aspects of children’s ministries, infants through fifth grade, in alignment with church mission.
  2. Recruiting, training, scheduling and evaluation of volunteers in children’s ministries, with the support of a children’s ministry team
  3. Coordinate communication with volunteers and the congregation.
  4. Be able to teach and lead as needed.
  5. Ensure that curriculum materials, equipment, and other supplies are available for volunteers each week.  We currently use Lifeway’s Explore the Bible curriculum.
  6. Build positive relationship with parents, encouraging and equipping them for their role as primary disciple-maker of their children. 
  7. Help plan and organize family ministry events.
  8. Ensure that child protection policies and procedures are followed, providing a safe environment for children.
  9. Attend weekly staff meetings, partnering in the mission and ministry of the church as a whole.
  10. Attend the quarterly church meeting and provide a Children’s Ministry report.
  11. Help prepare and submit an annual budget to the Finance Committee for church approval

General Information:

  1. The employee will work a 20 hour work week schedule to include Sundays from 8:30am-12:30pm, Wednesdays from 5:30-7:30pm,  Ministry team meetings during the week, and preparation time for ministry activities.  However, to accomplish timely completion of some tasks, it may occasionally be necessary, with prior approval of the Pastor, to modify the schedule to maintain a 20 hour work week.
  2. The employee is annually eligible for 10 days of equivalent paid vacation per year, only 4 of which can be Sundays. The observed holidays are: New Year’s Day, Easter Monday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day +1, Christmas Day +2.
  3. Performance evaluation:  Annually
  4. Employee shall comply with FJBC Personnel Policies and Procedures and the Church’s Bylaws.

 

Important Requirement

Because of the very high importance of the children’s ministry to the church’s ministry, when circumstances necessitate a foreseen absence, incumbent must timely inform the Pastor and arrange for a suitable alternate individual(s) to provide continuity in performance of his/her assigned duties.
