Music and Worship Minister

 

Principal Function: 

The Music and Worship Minister is responsible for planning, coordinating, and leading the worship services and music ministry of the church. This individual will work closely with the church leadership team to create a meaningful, Christ-centered worship experience that aligns with the church’s mission and vision. The Music and Worship Minister should be called by God and led by the Holy Spirit to guide the music ministry of Macedonia Baptist Church. 

 

Job Classification:

This position is a non-exempt and a part time position *

 

Requirements: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Spiritual Requirements:

  • Demonstrates a committed Christian faith that is vibrant and growing.
  • Possesses a clear calling to worship ministry and a heart for serving the local church.
  • Affirms agreement with the church’s statement of faith and mission (Baptist Faith and Message).
  • Commits to becoming an active member of Macedonia Baptist Church.

Experience, Education, Musical Skills:

  • Holds a degree in music or a related field
  • Leads worship music proficiently across various styles (traditional, contemporary, blended)
  • Demonstrates strong knowledge of all styles of worship music
  • Reads music with skill and accuracy
  • Leads choirs and congregational worship with confidence and experience
  • Performs vocally and/or plays instruments proficiently
  • Brings prior experience in worship ministry and leadership
  • Utilizes sound technology and worship software effectively
    • Software used at MBC: Canva and ProPresenter

Leadership & Interpersonal Skills:

  • Demonstrates strong organizational, communication, collaborative, and leadership abilities
  • Mentors and manages teams with experience and care
  • Inspires and engages both the congregation, choir, and worship team members
  • Exhibits self-motivation and initiative

Work Environment:

  • Works flexible hours, including weekends and evenings
  • Attends staff meetings, worship planning sessions, and church events.

 

Responsibilities: 

 Worsip Leadership:

  • Leads the choir and congregation in meaningful worship through music and prayer during weekly services and special events
  • Selects and arranges worship music that aligns with the message and theological values   

Team Development:

  • Recruits, trains, and mentors volunteer musicians, vocalists, and technical team members
  • Schedules and leads regular rehearsals to ensure excellence in music and worship preparation
  • Fosters a collaborative, Christ-centered environment among church members

Service Planning:

  • Collaborate with pastors and other church leaders to plan cohesive worship services.
  • Integrate multimedia, Scripture readings, and other creative elements into worship.
  • Ensure smooth transitions and flow during worship services.

Music Program Management:

  • Oversee the selection and maintenance of music library, musical instruments, and equipment.
  • Manage the worship ministry budget effectively.
  • Stay updated on trends in worship music and implement new ideas as appropriate.

Congregational Engagement:

  • Encourage congregational participation and spiritual growth through worship.
  • Build relationships with church members to understand their worship needs and preferences.
  • Support the spiritual development of the choir and congregation through music and prayer.

 

*Part-time is defined by federal law as 29 hours or fewer a week

  • Salaries/Benefits: As developed by Stewardship Team and approved by the Church Fellowship 
  • Pass all criminal, financial, and sexual misconduct background checks.

 *Policies:

  • Concerns will be referred to the Personnel Committee
  • The Music and Worship Minister will conduct his/her personal and business life in such a way as to bring a positive witness for the Kingdom of God and Macedonia Baptist Church.
