First Baptist Church of North Augusta is a vibrant and growing congregation with an active membership of approximately 600+ individuals, as well as the largest church weekday program in South Carolina. We are committed to serving our members and community with integrity, transparency, and excellence in ministry. We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Bookkeeper to manage the church’s financial operations.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Church Bookkeeper will be responsible for managing the financial recordkeeping of the church. This includes accurate tracking of weekly tithes and offerings, processing payroll, managing expenses and disbursements, and ensuring compliance with 501(c)(3) regulations. Additionally, the Bookkeeper will work with the Weekday Director to support receipts, payroll and bill payment associated with the Weekday Program. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, trustworthy, and proficient in accounting software. The Bookkeeper will work closely with the Senior Pastor and/or Executive Pastor, Weekday Director, Church Treasurer, and Finance Team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Record and deposit weekly tithes, offerings, weekday receipts, and other incoming funds in a timely and secure manner.
  • Process payroll for church staff (including weekday), including all required tax and benefits withholdings and reporting.
  • Process bill payments for church and weekday education program
  • Track and categorize all church/staff expenses and ensure proper documentation for each transaction.
  • Reconcile bank statements and ensure consistency with internal records.
  • Prepare monthly financial reports for church leadership and the finance committee. Assist with the preparation of the annual church budget.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable financial policies and 501(c)(3) regulations related to churches.
  • Support external audits or financial reviews as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality and integrity in handling all financial data.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience). CPA is preferred but not required.
  • Candidate should have 5-10 years of bookkeeping/accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit, church and/or weekday education setting.
  • Proficiency with Quicken or QuickBooks and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel). Knowledge of other church-based financial platforms, such as Rock RMS, ProCare, Simple Donation and Expense is beneficial.
  • Strong knowledge of IRS regulations and 501(c)(3) guidelines applicable to religious organizations.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills. High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/SALARY

  • May occasionally require evening or weekend availability for financial meetings or special events.
  • Salary commensurate with education and experience
