Music Leader Job Summary Philadelphia Baptist Church
The worship leader plans, coordinates, and leads all worship services under the oversight of the pastor. The worship leader will plan and lead a blend of quality corporate worship weekly that consists of music focused on drawing the congregation into a time of praise to the Lord Jesus Christ. This person will use the talents of the choir, praise team, and or musicians as available. They must show a willing attitude of Christian service to the position and its responsibilities with a willingness to explore innovative ways to grow the music ministry.
Responsibilities
- Lead congregational music with focus on worship.
- Responsible for rehearsing and conducting the adult choir on a weekly basis to prepare for Sunday worship. Organize and maintain the music library and the choir room.
- Review, select, and purchase music that meets our doctrinal and worship standards.
- Prepare seasonal music, music for holidays, and music for special events (weddings, funerals, etc.).
- Attend and take an active role in staff meetings to share and coordinate with other members to ensure a seamless and worshipful service.
- Prepare the schedule for the Order of Worship for each service and distribute as appropriate.
- Long-range planning for worship services.
- Secure substitutions for self and musicians as needed including coordinating pay.
- Oversee music staff members, i.e. collaborative pianist, choir and work with praise band leader to coordinate music for all services.
- Duties are subject to change based on need and staff available.
- Recommends the financial needs of the music ministry to the church Finance Committee, follow established church procedures, and be responsible for the expenditures of the music ministry.
- Perform other duties assigned by the pastor.
Requirements
- Adheres to the Baptist Faith and Message 2000.
- Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and be striving to grow that relationship,
- Must possess quality vocal skills, with ability to lead congregational singing.
- Must have the ability to choose, arrange, and plan song selections for church worship from sound sources that advance Scriptural doctrine.
- Able to organize and lead choir, ensembles, and praise teams.
- Be flexible and able to adapt to change.
- Good communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to read music.
- Possess an understanding of theology of worship.
- Must be able to pass standard background checks.
Part-time position possibly increasing to a full-time position as needed as the church grows. A minimum of 12-hours per week. Base salary at $14,000 increasing with level of education and experience.
Current Schedule
Sunday
7:45 AM Praise Team meets at to rehearse and set sound
8:30 AM Worship Service-
- Praise Team leads worship and music.
- Music director leads hymns.
- No choir in the 8:30 service.
10:45 AM Worship Service-
- 10:30 choir meets in choir room to rehearse
- Praise team leads praise music.
- Choir director leads congregational hymns.
Sunday Evening- Different organizational groups meet. There is no evening worship service except for special occasions.
Wednesday night-
- 5:00 PM evening meal
- 6:00-7:00 PM Prayer meeting and Bible study in the Fellowship Hall.
- 6:00-7:00 PM Adult choir practice
- 6:00-7:30 PM Children, Youth and AWANA Mamas meet at the Family Life Center.
- 7:00-8:00 PM Praise Team practice
