Pianist

Statement of Purpose: To play the piano for the music programs of Mizpah Baptist Church. Work closely with the Music Director / Worship Pastor.

Responsibilities:

1. Born again believer in Jesus Christ
2. Personal testimony and character in the community consistent with the standards of Mizpah Baptist Church.
3. Regular and consistent transportation.
4. Past experience playing in a worship setting.
5. Basic understanding of hymnody in a Baptist setting
6. Ability to read music.
7. Comfortable reading from the hymnal but able to “embellish” the music when needed.
8. Ability to read chord charts/lead sheets is a plus (but not required).
9. Ability to “underscore” moments in the service (prayer/invitation/benediction)
10. Ability to play in multiple styles (contemporary/traditional/southern gospel)
11. Ability to provide a substitute pianist in the event of an absence or requested week off.
12. Play for all planned services.
13. Play for Adult choir and any other ensembles assigned by the Music Director / Worship Pastor.
14. Work with the Music Director and Pastor to ensure a quality music program for Mizpah Baptist Church.
15. In the event the pianist is asked to play at a funeral or a wedding, they will be responsible for discussing with the family their fees and availability, if any.
16. If unable to report for choir practice or church service, contact the Music Director.

 Supervision:

1. Reports directly to the Music Director / Worship Pastor but works for the church.

 Compensation:

1. As agreed, upon by the church and planned in the church budget.
2. Work Hours
   1. Weekly choir practice/worship team rehearsal
   2. Sunday morning rehearsal/sound check
   3. Sunday morning worship service
   4. 2 cantatas a year (Christmas/Easter) typically held on a Sunday evening.
   5. 2 “nights of worship” typically held on a Sunday evening.
