Swansea First Baptist Church is a loving, mission-minded congregation located in the heart of Swansea, S.C., a close-knit rural community where faith and family run deep. Affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention, we are committed to the truth of God’s Word, the Great Commission, and ministering to people of all ages. With a strong tradition of fellowship and service, we are seeking a faithful, biblically grounded Senior Pastor to shepherd our church into its next chapter. Our active membership is approximately 200 people. Among various others, we have ongoing missions supporting numerous orphanages, churches, and areas of Kenya, Africa.
Position Summary:
The Senior Pastor will serve as the spiritual and organizational leader of the church, responsible for preaching, teaching, pastoral care, and guiding the church in its mission and ministries. We are looking for a pastor who will lead with humility, relate well to people in all walks of life, and faithfully proclaim the Gospel in both word and action.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Prepare and deliver weekly Bible-based sermons including Wednesday night prayer meetings.
- Provide spiritual leadership, discipleship, and encouragement to the congregation.
- Visit and minister to members, including homebound persons, hospitalized, and those in need.
- Lead the church in local missions and community outreach as well as manage church staff.
- Oversee the administration of the ordinances (baptism and the Lord’s Supper).
- Work alongside deacons and committees in planning and decision-making.
- Officiate weddings, funerals, and other pastoral duties.
- Represent the church within the local community and associational meetings.
Qualifications:
- A clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a life that reflects spiritual maturity.
- A definite call to pastoral ministry.
- Ordained (or willing to be ordained) as a Southern Baptist minister.
- Affirmation of the Baptist Faith and Message (2000).
- Preferred seminary education from an SBC-affiliated institution.
- Pastoral or ministry experience, ideally in a small-church or rural setting.
- Strong relational skills and a heart for shepherding people of all ages.
