The Minister of Youth and family shall be called by the church on the recommendation of the Minister of Youth and Family Selection Committee. He/She shall be an active Southern Baptist with an active Christian testimony and shall be directed by the Pastor.
A. PURPOSE
The purpose of the Minister of Youth and Family is to serve the church by developing comprehensive educational ministry for the youth and children of the church for their spiritual growth and to supervise volunteer workers involved in this ministry.
B. DUTIES
- Work with the Sunday School Director and Pastor in selecting curriculum to meet the spiritual and educational needs of the youth and children.
- Develop one-on-one relationships with junior and senior high youth by being a friend and positive role model.
- Plan, develop and coordinate creative programs with other staff members and committees to provide a well-rounded program for spiritual growth through Bible teaching, music and recreation.
- Recruit, train and equip key people to volunteer in the Youth and Children’s departments and ensure that they have current background checks as is required for all church leaders.
- Prepare and teach a youth Bible study lesson on Sunday morning, Sunday night and Wednesday night as well as keeping the youth informed of upcoming events.
- Work with the Finance Committee and Pastor to plan a yearly budget for the youth and family ministries.
- Develop service and mission projects for youth to grow in service to the Lord.
- Plan, communicate and coordinate celebrations and/or events/trips/camps for the Youth and Children’s departments.
- Attend staff meetings, retreats as well as any committee meetings necessary to carry out the youth and family ministries of the church.
- Develop, plan and coordinate all aspects necessary for Vacation Bible School, Awana, Good News Club, etc. for the children of the church and community, utilizing the youth as needed. In the event that an AWANA commander is not present, step in and fill this role.
- Participate in all church-wide activities of the church such as fellowships, visitation, revivals etc.
- Develop and coordinate the updates to the church website for youth and children’s activities. This would also include getting input from other church leaders for website updates. A proficiency with office software is preferred.
- Form relationships with parents of children and youth.
- Develop and coordinate family events involving youth and children.
- Cooperate with the Pastor by performing any other duties when asked to do so.
- Be prepared to fill the pulpit in the pastor’s absence.
A. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary:
The salary and other benefits shall be those as stated in the church budget.
Hours:
Approximately forty (40) hours per week as directed by the Pastor. Conference attendance hours shall be adjusted accordingly.
Vacation:
Vacation is based upon continuous full-time service in a Southern Baptist church. Two (2) weeks with pay will be given during the first five (5) years of service. Beginning with the sixth year of service, three (3) weeks with pay will be given.
- Holidays:
Those observed by the church.
- Sick Leave:
Ten (10) working days with pay. These may be accumulated up to thirty (30) days. If more days are needed than have been earned, the Personnel Committee shall review the situation and make the appropriate recommendation.
- Personal Leave:
Up to three (3) days per year with pay may be granted at the discretion of the Personnel Committee for such reasons as death or sickness in the family, jury duty, or other personal reasons.
- Separation Terms:
- Employee Resigns: work two (2) weeks’ notice.
- Church asks for termination: separation is immediate, and two (2) weeks’ salary shall be paid.
