First Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant South Carolina has an open position for an Associate Pastor of Family Ministry. While the current job description is presented below, please note that we are ever open to how God will fill this position in His Church.  

 

Qualifications/Education/Experience Requirements:

Seminary degree from a conservative evangelical institution strongly preferred, but not required. Must have sound theological foundation with a BS/BA degree, with a combination of at least five years family, youth and children ministry experience. Must meet the same qualifications as required in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1 to be an Elder.

Must possess good written and oral communication skills. Be proficient in technology associated with teaching and outreach, including being competent in social media. Must have good interpersonal dynamics to work with other staff. Must be able to disciple others. Must be a positive,outgoing personality who enjoys building and leading teams. Must have the ability to develop and supervise volunteers and ministry partners. Must be an effective multi-tasker with a self-motivational work style. Must be able to organize and coordinate services and events. Must be able to develop and oversee budgets.

This is a full-time salaried position with full-time benefits as detailed in the Employee Handbook.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Associated Pastor of Family Ministry is part of the Ministry Team at FBC, and will take on other duties and responsibilities as needed.
  • The primary responsibility of the Associate Pastor of Family Ministry is to strengthen the family unit through teaching and discipleship of parents and overseeing the spiritual needs of children and youth.
  • The Associate Pastor of Family Ministry will work in cooperation with the Senior Pastor, staff, and Elders in ministering to the family as we strive to build God honoring families, strong marriages, positive parent-child relationships and families who love God.
  • Select and/or develop curriculum to faciliate consistent, high quality youth and children ministry in the church. Develop and lead programs and events that help accomplish the vision for Family Ministry.
  • The Associate Pastor of Family Ministry duties and responsibilities also includesorganizing and enlisting volunteers, preparing and leading weekly Sunday morning programs, leading weekday gatherings and periodic special events such as camps, conferences, trips, service projects, etc.
  • Identify, enlist and develop volunteer adult leaders for youth and children ministry.
  • Coordinate ministry volunteers and their background checks. Ensure safety training has been performed by all volunteers and staff of Youth and Children's Ministry.
  • Oversee all gatherings of children and youth to ensure proper biblical teaching curriculum, communication and safety.
  • Model strong and relational Christian leadership to families of the church.
  • Apply biblical truths in a way that is teachable and relatable to all age levels.
  • Develop and support additional opportunities for families through Bible study, discilpeship and fellowship groups.
  • Equip the members of the family, including grandparents, guardians, youth and children.
  • Assist fanmilies in facilitating the transition of youth members to adulthood, in particular modeling and displaying a faithful and vibrant relationship with Christ.
  • Seek relationships on regional college campuses that provide a strong Biblical place of worship, seek to provide spiritual continuity for young adults as they transition to independent living.
  • Attend weekly FBC staff meetings.
  • Provide oversight, leading and teaching as needed at FBC's missional school, Coastal Christian Preparatory School, such as Bible classes and Chapel.
  • Responsible for the preparation and supervision of the Youth and Children's Ministry budgets.
  • Supervise assigned FBC ministerial staff, specifically the Student and Children's Ministers.
  • The Associate Pastor of Family Ministry shall assist in achieving the overall goal of the church, and may be asked to preach, teach or attend adult services or classes. 
  • The Associate Pastor of Family Ministry will perform pastoral care and counseling duties as needed and/or identified by the Senior Pastor.
